1- Best Paper Second Prize Award, IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, Electrical Machine Technical Committee, IECON 2008, Nov. 10-13, 2008, Orlando, FL, for the paper “Sensorless Direct Torque Control and Indirect Flux Control of Brushless DC Motor with Non-Sinusoidal Back-EMF” Proceedings of the IEEE-IECON’08," authored by S.B. Ozturk, and H.A. Toliyat.

Dr. Hamid Toliyat, professor of Electrical & Computer Engineering at Texas A&M University, received the 2007 IEEE Power Engineering Society Best Transactions Paper Award from Mr. John McDonald IEEE-PES President.

Dr. Hamid Toliyat, professor for the Department of Electrical Engineering at Texas A&M, received the 2004 Cyril Veinott Award, an Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Power Engineering Society (PES) award.  Mr. John McDonald IEEE-PES President presented Prof. Toliyat the award.  The Cyril Veinott Award is given for outstanding contributions to the field of electromechanical energy conversion. Candidates are nominated for consideration by peers. Prof. Toliyat received a plaque, a $5000 honorarium, and recognition at the recent IEEE-IEMDC’05. Selection criteria includes: career dedication to the electric power engineering profession and career contributions to the development, design, analysis, or manufacturing of electromechanical energy conversion systems or devices.
