ECE Connect Mentor Program
Texas A&M University
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering
Program |
OVERVIEW
ECE Connect is a new initiative from the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department (ECEN) at Texas A&M University. The program started in fall 2010. ECE Connect is focused on improving first year retention, motivation and success of current ECEN students. Former Texas A&M Engineering students will mentor one to three first generation college freshmen students. The department hopes to expand the program to all incoming freshmen students by fall 2012. We will need at least 75-80 mentors to make that happen. All students sign a release form authorizing the ECEN department permission to provide their contact information to the mentor. The undergraduate advising office will strive to match student’s interests with the mentor’s experience. The success of ECE Connect depends on the mentor’s commitment to the program and our students.
Enrollment Period: June 1 – August 27 each year for the following fall / spring term
We are currently seeking additional mentors for the 2011/2012 academic year and accepting mentee sign-ups for incoming freshmen students entering Texas A&M in fall 2011.
Mentor / Mentee Notification: last week of August prior to the first day of fall classes
Length of Formal Relationship: one academic year
