ECE student receives power association scholarship

An undergraduate student from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Texas A&M University was among two undergraduate engineering students to receive a scholarship from the Gulf Coast Power Association (GCPA).
Chris Weldy (left), along with Christopher Bounds (right) from the mechanical engineering department, were recognized at the Spring GCPA luncheon in The Woodlands on April 2.
Weldy is a senior electrical engineering major who will graduate in December 2009. He has previously interned with Oncor and will work for them again this summer. He plans to return to Oncor in the power delivery area upon graduation.
Bounds is a senior mechanical engineering major who has previously interned with the South Texas Nuclear Project (STP). Bounds will again work for STP this summer and plans to work with the STP upon graduation in May 2010.
This is the fourth year that the GCPA has given scholarships to Aggie engineers. This year’s scholarships were given by John Stauffacher, GCPA executive director, in memory of David Olver, former GCPA executive director. To be considered for a scholarship, the students must have prior experience with the power industry and/or have a commitment to work in the industry.
Texas A&M’s faculty representative to the GCPA is Dr. Dan Turner (center), professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Regent’s Fellow.
Weldy and Bounds wish to thank the GCPA for their support and for the support provided to previous GCPA scholarship recipients.
