A&M Engineering Students Win SAE Hybrid Competition


 
Recently a group of Texas A&M engineering students, many from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, won the 2009 SAE Formula Hybrid competition in Loudon, N.H. with their student-designed and -built gas-electric hybrid race car.
The Texas A&M team beat out 29 other teams from institutions in the United States, Canada, Taiwan and Russia to win the title in its first attempt.
During the competition they won four out of the six events, the business presentation, static design judging, autocross and endurance races were all won outright. They also finished 3rd and 2nd in the electric-only and unlimited acceleration events, respectively. In the total event scoring, Texas A&M was awarded 980.9 points out of 1000 with the nearest competitor, Colorado State University, finishing at 757.7 points in front of Drexel University at 689.4 points.
