Kezunovic voted onto the NIST Smart Grid Interoperability Panel Governing Board

Recently, Dr. Mladen Kezunovic was voted onto the first Smart Grid Interoperability Panel (SGIP) Governing Board. Established by NIST with the assistance of EnerNex, under a contact enabled by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, the new consensus-driven organization provides an open process for businesses and other stakeholder groups to participate in coordinating and accelerating development of standards for the evolving Smart Grid.
Starting with an initial membership of more than 370 organizations spread among 22 stakeholder categories, the SGIP has three primary functions:

“The panel will ensure that the perspectives of the many diverse constituencies—from utility to consumer and from appliance manufacturer to wind or solar farm—are represented in decision-making on standards needed to achieve the Smart Grid vision,” said George Arnold, NIST’s national coordinator for Smart Grid interoperability. “It will provide an open, consensus-based process for stakeholder participation.”

Kezunovic, the Eugene E. Webb Professor in the electrical and computer engineering department at Texas A&M University is the Site Director of Power Engineering Research Center (PSerc), an NSF I/UCRC at Texas A&M. Before joining Texas A&M he worked for Westinghouse Electric Corp., Pittsburgh, PA, 1979-1980 and the Energoinvest Company in Europe 1980-1986. Kezunovic has published more than 350 papers in journals and conference proceedings, and has given numerous seminars, short courses and tutorials. He was invited to give more than 100 lectures world-wide and is listed as a Distinguished Speaker of the IEEE PES. While at Texas A&M, Kezunovic was the principal investigator on more than 60 research projects and supervised 40 graduate students. Kezunovic is a Fellow of the IEEE, a member of CIGRÉ and a registered professional engineer in Texas.
